Who is the Owner if AI Creates Literary / Artistic Work?

When a computer learns to mimic the human abilities of thinking, solving a problem, deriving logical conclusions and learning from the data, it is said to possess the ability of Artificial Intelligence or AI. AI has seen a phenomenal growth in the recent past and has spread its wings to artistic, musical and literary works as well.

In 2016, a 3D portrait “The Next Rembrant” was unveiled in the Netherlands. A computer, loaded with facial recognition algorithm, scanned data from 346 painting and 168,283 fragments from the works of the artist Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. Based on the learning from the paintings and fragments, the computer created the 3D portrait. Other examples of AI created works include a song “Daddy’s car” and poems written by Google’s AI. The music for the song was composed using AI software called “the flow machines” developed by Sony Computer Science Laboratories Inc. Google’s AI was exposed to a large number of books related to poems and thereafter the computer was able to write a poem on its own.
