Two landmark cases in the ongoing legal battle to establish an artificial intelligence system as an inventor came down in favor of the team trying to make this possible. In the first instance, South Africa has become the first country to grant a patent for an invention created by artificial intelligence. That case was quickly followed by an Australian judge ruling that the Commissioner of Patents acted incorrectly when he ruled that an invention conceived by an AI could not be granted a patent in that country.
